Germany U-21 international of Nigerian descent, Felix Agu, has signed for Bundesliga club, Werder Bremen, for the 2020-2021 season.
The deal, which will see the 20-year-old versatile full-back join River Islanders next summer, was announced by German top-flight side on Thursday.
Agu’s contract with the club, VfL Osnabrück, expires at the end of this season and he has opted to move on to the top division instead of renewing with his boyhood club.
Commenting on the transfer, Managing Director of Football at Werder Bremen, Frank Baumann, said: “Felix is a young, talented player who can be used flexibly. We are pleased that he chose Werder despite other lucrative inquiries.”
Werder coach, Florian Kohfeldt, is also pleased with the acquisition of the German youth International.
“Felix has a good speed, a good passing game and a good development as a full-back in Osnabrück, which we at Werder would like to continue with him,” the 37-year-old gaffer said.
Felix Agu, who was born to Nigerian parents in Germany, is comfortable playing in both full-back positions. He has played fifteen Bundesliga games this season and made six assists.
He has played twice for Germany’s U-21 team but is still eligible to play for Nigeria, having not represented Germany at senior level.
