Daniel Carrico believes China is safer than Europe at the moment as the Coronavirus continues to spread across the continent.
All professional football, apart from European competitions, has been suspended in Spain as they try to contain the outbreak.
Carrico himself completed a move to Wuhan Zall – the club of the city at the heart of the source of the virus – from Sevilla in January.
Wuhan Zall were forced to stay at their training base in Marbella while Coronavirus spread across China, but now they are heading home.
“China is now safer than Europe,” Carrico told Tuttomercatoweb.
“The problem is here now, they’ve practically eradicated [the virus] in China.
“We’ve been training in Marbella, waiting for the Coronavirus alarm to disappear completely [in China] before safely returning to Wuhan and progressively getting on with our lives.
“In China, the situation is a lot less worrying compared to the rest of the world.”
Carrico signed for Wuhan at the time when the Coronavirus was ravaging the city, with the entire Hebei province on lockdown.
“I had my doubts to start with, I can’t deny it,” the defender said.
“When the January transfer window opened, there wasn’t much known about COVID-19, only that there was a new virus going around China.
“I spent a few days reading up on it and the club themselves reassured me and guaranteed me that we wouldn’t go to Wuhan until the emergency was over.
“The Coronavirus problem has really interrupted the whole world, but things are getting better in China.
“While the [number of] infections are increasing daily in Europe and in other countries, there are fewer and fewer cases in China and the new ones are very few.
“It’s fundamental to contain the outbreak of the virus in every way, not letting it spread everywhere.
“Suspending games is definitely the right solution, considering the amount of people that there are in the stadium and because of the health of the players and team staff.
“[Playing behind] closed doors helps, but it’s clear that suspending everything is even more efficient.
“Public health has to come before football and anything else.”
