EndSARS: IGP Adamu Charges Officers To Return To Work, Urges Them Not To Demoralised By Attacks

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has urged the officers of the Oyo State Police Command not to be demoralised by the EndSARS protests, adding that they should not shy away from performing their constitutional responsibilities in order not to put the society in trouble.

Adamu gave this charge during his official visit to the headquarters of the command in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The IGP advised the officers to ensure that they always act in a civil manner when dealing with members of the public in the course of carrying out their constitutional duties.

He stated;

“NO AMOUNT OF INSULT, NO AMOUNT OF ATTACKS SHOULD PREVENT YOU FROM PERFORMING YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO OUT AND PERFORM YOUR DUTY THE WAY YOU HAVE BEEN TRAINED.
“YOU MUST FOLLOW THE PROTOCOL AND BE CIVIL IN DOING IT. AT THE POINT OF DOING YOUR JOB, BE ENCOURAGED AND IF ANYTHING HAPPENS IN THE COURSE OF DOING IT, WE WILL STAND BEHIND YOU BUT NEVER SHY AWAY.”
Adamu also went ahead to reminisce on how the protest started in Ogele, part of Delta State.

“WE ARE HERE IN RESPECT TO WHAT HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF ENDSARS PROTEST, IT STARTED AS FAKE NEWS IN UGHELI, DELTA STATE AFTER POLICE ON PATROL ACCOSTED 2 PEOPLE WHO PARKED THEIR VEHICLE IN A SUSPICIOUS MANNER.

“ONE OF THEM FELL FROM THE CAR AND SLUMPED WHILE A PASSERBY RECORDED THE VIDEO CLAIMING THE POLICE KILLED SOMEONE IN UGHELLI AND IT SPREAD ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

“THE REQUEST TO ENDSARS STARTED SINCE 2015, ALTHOUGH IT IS AN INEVITABLE SECTION, PAST ADMINISTRATION REFORMED BUT WE HAVE DISSOLVED IT.

“PROTESTERS REFUSE TO LEAVE THE STREET AFTER THE CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN MET BECAUSE THEIR SPONSORS ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THEIR AIMS” HE SAID.
